Mother’s Day 2011 | Mothering Sunday 2011

My sister asked me when Mother’s Day 2011 is. I told her it will be on May 08, 2011 (US). For her, they have a different day to celebrate it and it is on April 03, 2011 and they call it Mothering Sunday in UK.

With these dates clear in mind now, you may start thinking of mother’s day gifts to send to your mom, sister or friends who are also mothers like you and me. It is not too early for those in the UK, it is less than a month away while those in the US and other countries celebrating it on that same day in May 2011, it is just good enough time to plan what you want to give your love one.

Here are the dates by the way for the following so you would know and hopefully won’t forget!

Chewing Gum

I miss chewing gum. My dear hubby does not like to chew gum because he says, he is not comfortable with it and it causes something like gas pain for him. He is short not made for chewing gums he said. I used to like chewing gum when I was in my younger years particularly in grade school or high school. I stopped when an incident happened that I almost swallowed a gum because we were making fun with a friend of each other. That incident really scared me and since then I somehow never thought of chewing gum again. (more…)

Things to Know About Mosquitoes

I am one of those mothers who dread mosquitoes and doesn’t want to see them anywhere and everywhere especially near my son. Here are some things to know about these mosquitoes that I don’t ever wanna see.

  • There are 2,700 species of mosquitoes in the whole world.
  • They are most active at dusk and dawn.
  • They have lived in this planet for over 30 million years.
  • They like dark colors so to be safe wear light colored clothes.
  • They can smell your breath, body scent and perfume from 20 to 35 meters away.
  • Empty out water containers, pails, used tires, inflatable toys, and other things that may collect rainwater or any water in your backyard or anywhere in the house. They can be the breeding place of mosquitoes. So it is important to check everyday that there is no water around for them to breed.
  • They are drawn to people who are big as they give off more heat and carbon dioxide which attracts them to you. They are drawn to carbon dioxide so just by breathing out you already attract mosquitoes.
  • HIV that causes AIDS cannot survive in a mosquito thus it cannot be transmitted through mosquito bites. Well this is great to know!
  • Mosquitoes source of energy is sugar! they like fruit juices, plant nectar, and other saccharine liquids from plants.

So that last one may be the reason that the elders or some people would say that your blood is sweet when you are prone to mosquito bites. I really notice that when I have my monthly visitor when my body temperature tends to be higher than normal, I easily attract mosquitoes and I am more prone to their bites.
